NYSCAME Vice President, Johanna Siebert is involved with research to encourage the retention of music educators in the profession today. Johanna is participating on a committee with the Society of Music Teacher Education (SMTE) that has produced a survey examining the retention of music teachers in education.
The survey has been designed to query music educators with over five (5) years teaching experience to respond about their background, current teaching position, and other information. The SMTE committee would like to receive responses from many geographical areas. All resposes will remain anonymous. Results of the survey will be presented at the MENC research conference in Anaheim, California in March, 2010
Please take a few minutes to take the survey. Thanks in advance for your participation. Click here to access the survey.
To all,
It is with profound sorrow that we share news of the passing of Joseph
Sugar. As you know, our colleague and friend was Past President of
both NYSSMA and NYSCAME and served in a myriad of positions with many
other organizations. Joe was the retired Director of Music of the
Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools and currently served as Professor of
Music at LIU-CW Post College.
Joe was a giant in the Music Education field and he will be
tremendously missed by all. Our thoughts and prayers are with Clara
and the entire Sugar family.
