Dear colleagues,
As this newsletter arrives I assume the NYSCAME presidency
minus the “Elect” title. Please allow me to thank Pat Wheelhouse for her
leadership and friendship over the last two years. We could not have asked for
a more passionate and dedicated individual to help us through these challenging
times. I look forward to working closely with the executive board of Paul
Infante, Lori Orestano-James, Kevin Bayen, and Ann Trombley.
This board will meet in Albany on Sunday evening, March 4 at
5:00 at the Stay Inn, and the general membership meeting will be at 1:30 on Joe
Sugar Day, Monday, March 5 in room 7 behind the Egg.
We have been working very closely with the NYSSMA leadership
to stay involved at all levels of the current debates and changes that are
affecting us all. I am pleased to say our collective input in many circles is a
positive step. At worst we are at the table, at best we can help steer toward a
less negative/more positive direction. As we all know, the game is a difficult
one, but our students, staff, and music education continue to drive us to take on the task.
I look forward to seeing many of you next week in Albany as
we have a wonderful opportunity to advocate for what is right and fair.
Craig P. Sherman
